3v2 To Goal

  • Make a triangle – create triangles to make passing angles easier.
  • Movement – players not on the ball move into space and ask for the ball.
  • Be brave – Always look to go forward, try and dribble past the player 1v1 or try a shot or pass.

This is a good game-like exercise to mimic the attacking team going to goal, making decisions, and being direct.

  • Teams of 3 attackers start halfway between the halfway line and the goal line.
  • 2 defenders start on either side of the goal
  • The coach plays the ball to any of the attackers, and the game starts.
  • The attacking team has more numbers to allow them more success to help understand the principles and understanding how numerical superiority will help them in a game.
  • The phase ends with a goal, the ball going out of play, or if the defenders can gain control of the ball and dribble or pass to the attacking start line.
  • Half 7v7 used but 30 yards length, 25 yards wide (width of the goal area)
  • 3 players lined up left, center, and right

Attacking to goal with the 3 attacking principles (width, support, and penetration) and defensive principles (compact, organized and pressure, cover, and balance) coached and enforced.

  • Bring the attackers closer or further from the goal or allow the defenders to start nearer to the attackers.
  • You can create a 4v2 or 3v3 to make it easier or harder for attackers.
