Red Light, Green Light

  • Keep head up when dribbling to see where they’re dribbling, other
  • Tiny touches with all parts of the foot and slower dribbling in traffic allow the player to manipulate the ball
  • Larger touches to speed up in space

Players dribble around as ‘cars.’

Gates can be used as buildings or streets that players need to go through.

  • The coach calls out a color players need to respond to:
    • Red light: FREEZE!
    • Green light: GO!
    • Yellow light: SLOW!

Dribbling, ball mastery, ball manipulation, and control are key to the game. The more touches on the ball, the more practice and development a child will have. So games like this can give the player a lot of touches and add some fun to the exercise.

Awareness is also a key part of the game, often overlooked, that will allow players to.

  • Create new commands:
    • Rev your engine: 5 toe-taps
    • Blue light – faster!
    • Turn!
  • Make the area smaller or larger with other objects.
  • Any car/player that crashes, must repair their car and do toe-taps to start again.
